Detention pond and surrounding prairie on west side of Beloit, WI. In the triangle made by 3 roads: S. Madison Road (= Hwy. 213), Whipple St., and Frederick St.

Several seen patrolling pond edge.

Common Whitetail (Plathemis lydia)

Most common dragonfly was the male; many were patrolling the pond edge. Noted a few females in flight and caught one pair in a series of photos showing in-flight mating and male guarding female during ovipositing that immediately followed. (3 photos)
