Common Green Darner (Anax junius)
Observed
Not as common as earlier in May
Springtime Darner (Basiaeschna janata)
Photographed
This was early evening, about 6pm, still warm, clear skies. Dragonflies appeared to be tucking in for the night, seeking to roost at the head of a woodland trail in some short scrub oak. Within 4 sq feet there were 2 springtime darners, a stream cruiser and a dot-tail whiteface. A whitetail landed on an oak trunk several feet away. (1 photo)
