July 6, 2023 — Iron County
From Gurney, follow State Hwy 169 south about 3 miles to Vogues Road. Follow Vogues Road east, south and west to where it joins with Casey Sag Road. Park there and continue west roughly 800 ft down the 2-track road to the Tyler Forks River. Wade the river and continue west along the 2-track for another 0.6 mile or so. Then proceed north through the woods for about 0.3 miles to the beaver meadow.

Belted Whiteface (Leucorrhinia proxima)

This individual was perched on an old log, about 2-3 ft above the ground. It flew off when I first tried to photograph it. I walked east 100 ft or so, and then circled back to the log. Within a couple minutes it returned. The habitat was an open beaver meadow complex, with a fairly large beaver pond roughly 300 ft west of here. Abdominal shape is better for L. proxima.
