Rock River Lagoon. Diversion of the Rock River that forms an elongate, shallow lagoon in Riverside Park, Beloit. The lagoon is about 110 m wide (E-W) and 225 m long (N-S), has some grasses growing around the edge, and is aerated with a fountain. Located on the west of Riverside Drive, about 0.5 km north of the intersection with White Avenue.

Black Saddlebags (Tramea lacerata)

Very common; all in flight. A few pairs flying in tandem. They would fly low, the male would release the female for a couple of seconds to oviposit, and then they would join up again and repeat the entire procedure. They were constantly harassed by other black saddlebags. (2 photos)
Eastern Pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis)

Fairly common, particularly the males. Saw one pair quickly mate; the female immediately began to deposit eggs as male guarded her. (3 photos)
