May 6, 2018 — Chippewa County
Lake Como, North Park, unimproved shoreline, some cattails
Common Green Darner (
Anax junius)
Netted and released
Mid-afternoon, mostly sunny, mid 60s, breezy, but almost calm at water level. A few (never more than three in view at any given moment) patrolling the shoreline, mostly along the dead cattails. Ovipositing pairs observed. As the afternoon went on individual males seemed less numerous and ovipositing pairs were more abundant (though not really "abundant"). Most activity where a small creek from the east flows into Lake Como. Mucky bottom. Appeared to be schools of fish present.
