Emerald Spreadwing (Lestes dryas)
Photographed
The ponds on my property in Bayfield County were created six years ago. Last year was the first time I saw Emerald Spreadwing here, and that was just one individual for a single day. Then yesterday I found three individuals, including a mating pair! This is the 8th species of spreadwing to breed in my ponds, the others being Northern, Southern, Sweetflag, Slender, Spotted, Lyre-tipped, and Amber-winged.
Southern Spreadwing (Lestes australis)
Photographed
Still several mature individuals present. Of note, other teneral spreadwings (presumably Sweetflag & Northern) are just now emerging.
