May 31, 2024 — Walworth County
Beulah Bog State Natural Area. The bog was very active with Odonata and naturalists. Chalk-fronted Corporals and Frosted Whitefaces own the place and a Tufted Titmouse never shuts up.
Common Green Darner (Anax junius)
Observed
3-4
Spatterdock Darner (Rhionaeschna mutata)
Observed
One seen, same as last year, most active on the south side of the lake, occasionally flying out toward the middle. Unlike last year, I wasn't able to capture a photo but observed blue eyes, face and much blue in the abdomen. I have no reason to believe it wasn't a Spatterdock.

Netted and released
Netted, confirmed by appendages.

Observed
A few along the boardwalk, no Sphagnum's seen.
Southern Spreadwing (
Lestes australis)
Netted and released
One netted.
Painted Skimmer (
Libellula semifasciata)

I found one perched on a snag at the bottom of the hillside on one of the trails that branches off to the south. The photos don't do justice to this glorious radiant skimmer.
