Stute Springs, Kettle Moraine State Forest, Southern Unit. Trails around homestead and near the parking lot. I’ve been here repeatedly to look for Black-tipped with no success.

Common Green Darner (Anax junius)
Observed
Green-striped Darner (Aeshna verticalis)
Photographed
One or two. There were a few mosaics flying around. Other poor flight shots suggest other Green-striped.

Williamson's Emerald (Somatochlora williamsoni)
Photographed
I just had netted the Green-striped when I spotted this emerald flying back and forth over the trail (which was about 25 yeards in from the parking lot) at about canopy height. I was able to see through my binoculars her ovipositor which was characteristically pointed down at 90 degrees. I struggled to adjust my camera settings to capture a flight shot. I saw details better than my photo reveals. I was stunned to find a striped emerald here. But, I’m confident that is what it was. She soon perched and after an hour I gave up waiting for another chance. If these photos fail to support the ID, please delete record.
