Lance-tipped Darner (Aeshna constricta)
Netted and released
Started observing at the site at 9:50 am with decent sun and a breeze. Flight activity of any dragonfly species was almost non-existent until 11:00 am. Even then, flight activity was fairly light. Observed about a dozen Lance-tipped Darners. Persistence was rewarded. Watched one specimen for about 10 minutes before it flew close enough to be netted. Thereafter, slogged through cattails and mud to try to reach distant flyers, but the effort was not rewarded!
