August 14, 2026 — Vilas County
From the town of Star Lake, follow County Highway K east about 2.0 miles to Deerfoot Road, then go north about 0.7 miles on Deerfoot Road to the public boat landing. From there you can canoe, kayak or boat to the northeast shore. Alternatively you can put in at the west shore landing off west Lake Laura Road, though that landing is usually too shallow for anything larger than a canoe. (Of course these dragonflies can probably be observed along much of the shoreline.)

Lake Laura is a 628 acre oligotrophic seepage lake. Most of the shoreline is undeveloped. The Lake Laura Hardwoods State Natural Area is just west of the landing.
