The Rome Pond Wildlife Area is a large open water cattail marsh, easily accessible from the public boat launch on County Road F.

Common Green Darner (Anax junius)
Observed
A few ovipositing pairs and patrolling males.
Prince Baskettail (Epitheca princeps)
Observed
A few were seen flying over open water.
Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum)
Observed
A couple were seen in the vegetation near the boat launch.
Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis)
Observed
Several
Common Whitetail (Plathemis lydia)
Observed
Several
Eastern Amberwing (Perithemis tenera)
Observed
Several - appeared to be one of the most abundant odonates at this time.
Eastern Pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis)
Observed
A few mating pairs, a few ovipositing females and several males.
Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina)
Observed
Observed at least 5 tandem pairs flying over the water and two females ovipositing while being contact guarded by the males. A few perched indidividuals were also seen.
Twelve-spotted Skimmer (Libellula pulchella)
Observed
Only one seen from open water quite a distance from shore.
Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa)
Observed
Several seen around cattail lined edges of the marsh.
Eastern Forktail (Ischnura verticalis)
Observed
A few
Orange Bluet (Enallagma signatum)
Observed

Powdered Dancer (Argia moesta)

A couple
Skimming Bluet (Enallagma geminatum)

Many - this was the most abundant damselfly at this site. (It was photographed as an afterthought, not realizing it was not yet listed for Jefferson County. OOF photo with the Orange Bluet included for voucher purposes. Please delete if preferable :) )
